Geography of ancient Egypt
Nile
Ancient Egypt would not have existed if it were not for the river Nile which flows from bottom to top. The Nile river is the life source of ancient and modern Egypt. Each July the Nile river floods and is at its full power. The Nile is the heart of Egyptian civilization.
The Black Land
After the flooding there is rich, fertile soil left behind. This is called the black land. It is called this according to its colour.
The Red Land
The Red land is also known as the desert this is also named by it's colour. It is believed to keep out the evil spirits and enemies from invading due to the lack of water and with it's oases very few.
The middle kingdom
The middle kingdom stretched from the 11th dynasty to about the 12th dynasty.
